🏙 Seattle Renter’s Handbook
Because Seattle has its own rental ordinances and housing regulations, it’s important for owners to understand the city’s specific requirements. One key requirement is providing the Seattle Renter’s Handbook to every new tenant at move-in.
This handbook explains tenants’ rights and responsibilities under Seattle law and must be distributed as part of the leasing process.
1️⃣ Requirement Summary
- Who: Applies to all rental properties located within the City of Seattle.
- When:
- A physical copy of the Seattle Renter’s Handbook must be given to every new tenant at move-in.
- Renewals: A new copy is not required at lease renewal unless the City of Seattle releases a major handbook update.
- Responsibility: GPS Renting will print and provide the required handbook copy to residents during move-in and document delivery for compliance.
- Cost: There is a $5 charge per move-in, billed to the owner, to cover the printing and handling of the required physical copy.
- Owner Reference: We encourage owners to review the handbook to better understand Seattle’s unique rental laws, including move-in procedures, tenant rights, and property standards.
